1 John 4:8 says that God is Love.
Sit and have coffee with me some day and I can tell you first hand that that statement is the truest of true because I’ve seen it all over the world. And it’s not just that I’ve seen it but I’ve felt it too. There have been moments in my life that I feel the love of the Father embody me and there’s nothing to do when that happens but crumble to my knee’s and weep because He is so good.
And for those that claim to walk with Christ but live a life far from love is impossible. Christ is love, God is love. If you know Christ you know Love. So when Christians discriminate homosexuals, judge the prostitute on the corner, or pass by the poor without dropping a dollar- I know, that they don’t know Christ to His full. So please excuse them. Because if they knew Him, they’d look at the homosexual and love, they’d look at the prostitute and love, and they most definitely would look at the poor man and love.
It makes my blood boil and my emotions roll when I hear stories about ‘Christians’ that discriminate, judge, and belittle people. They need to do one of two things: recognize the faith they’re claiming and walk in it, or take the label away because that’s clearly not who they are.
Tears roll down my face as I realize the name Christians have in America. My emotions are like baking soda and vinegar creating an explosion of passion that’s rolling out onto this page. It makes me hurt and my soul ache, because that’s not who we’re supposed to be. Our God is the God of Love.
Christ tells us to die to ourselves daily. He tells us to walk in humility. He doesn’t tell us to be prideful and scoff at every other soul we come in contact with, acting like we’re better than them because ‘we’re Christians’.
I apologize to you for all ‘Christians’ you’ve come in contact with that act like that. I apologize for all the times you felt small, inadequate, or rejected by ‘Christians.’ Jesus hung out with the lepers, the prostitutes, and the misfits. He didn’t walk this Earth chilling with the big dogs, passing up the poor in a sweet ride saying, “Eat my dust,” like ‘Christians’ these days do. He stopped, knelt next to the poor man and gave him the clothes off his back.
Returning to America will be hard, because it’s full of self-proclaimed Christians. I’m scared what my emotions will do when I face them head on. May God give me love for them too, because they’re just as lost as the ones they scoff at.
I pray America becomes a place that shines with true followers of Christ. Full of a people that help the homeless and love the broken. Full of a people that chooses love over condemnation and judgment. And a people that make Christ look attractive to others because He is. Everything about Him is attractive and worth knowing and worth believing in. Everything about Him is worth dying for. I pray one day you know that Love.
