During the few weeks since my acceptance phone call to join the World Race, my life has felt like quite a whirlwind! I have gone from seeking out apartments in side the loop in Houston to checking out 2 person lightweight tents to live in! Instead of preparing to start classes in the fall to become engrossed in adaptive sports, I am learning the new language of outdoor recreation gear! I have also learned that 3 years out of college means I am so far behind the social media curve!!!

I feel like today is the first day i have been able to breath and not feel overwhelmed with so much newness.

The process of preparing for the world race keeps me reaching for the words my Mom spoke over me during her retirement ceremony as a blessing for my future travels as she put a medallion around my neck that bore this scripture in Hebrew.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains, where does my help come from? 2 My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. 3 He will not let your foot slip, he who watches over you will not slumber;4indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord watcher over you, the Lord is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord will keep you from all harm, he will watch over your life; 8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

Psalm 121

This scripture always brings me so much peace as I read it and pray through it!

So, for those of you who don’t know, I am a Recreation Therapist at a Mental Health facility in San Antonio, TX. I work with all ages and everyday is new; which is something you hear from day one. Something they don’t tell you is that you will have moments that mark your entire time working at the hospital that make the roughest days seem forgotten. I had one of those days today! I was able to talk with a young boy who had seen his Father beat his Mother most of his childhood and now the young boy uses his anger to cope with his problems. The boy had become extremely aggressive and we got to talk through some of the issues that were really triggering him. We were working on goal setting and he set some great goals, like to be a leader and a mentor.

It reminded me to think of my life goals, not my immediate ones! What is my greatest support and what helps me reach my goal!

My support is Jesus, my goal is live a life of holiness, what helps me reach that goal is reading the bible, praying, ministry, Jesus, trust, hope, my mentors, my friends, my family, my pug ( i know thats silly but he has my heart!!)

My goals as a child were to be a role model and to change the world! This Mission trip gives me the opportunity to spread the gift of recreation therapy around the world and build relationships with my team but with at least 11 other people because ill be going to 11 different countries! If by nothing else I know my world will be change by the time I return!

Remember you are dearly loved!

Be a light in this world today!!
