different ways. Unfortunately, I’ve struggled many times with overzealous expectations
that have led me to painful disappointment. I’ve blamed my discontentment on
God, asking him to please show me where to place my hopes. Then there are times
that I am overwhelmed by the beauty of the most unexpected experiences.
Sometimes expectations are met, sometimes not; either way my comfort is held
firmly in Christ.
No matter the heart-wrenching struggle or crushing beauty that lie ahead,
I yearn to live the life of the Beloved, to pray without ceasing, and to be
broken down only to be filled back up with Christ’s love. Here is a list of
quotes and scripture that does more justice to my expectations for the World
Race than my own bounded vocabulary…
I EXPECT…
CHRIST TO BE EXALTED IN MY BODY
“I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but
will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my
body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is
gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for
me…For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on
him, but also to suffer for him, since you are going through the same struggle
you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.”
TO LEAVE MATERIAL POSSESSIONS BEHIND
“Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity.”
TO PLACE MY HOPES IN CHRIST ALONE
hear my voice;
expectation.”
TO BE SHAKEN BY THE BROKENNESS OF HUMANKIND
hour when you do not expect him.”
TO PERSEVERE BY WAY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have
peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained
access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the
hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings,
because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character;
and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured
out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.”
AN EPIC ADVENTURE
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. To keep our faces
toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength
undefeatable.”
TO WITNESS THE POWER OF THE KINGDOM
“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with
the glory that will be revealed in us. The creation waits in eager expectation
for the sons of God to be revealed.”
TO BE TRANSFORMED
“Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. We are not
like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from
gazing at it while the radiance was fading away…But whenever anyone turns to
the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the
Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all
reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with
ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
TO LAUGH DAILY
“The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.”
