The more I talk and tell people what I am doing the more I hear the same questions. Here is the short list that I hear.
Wow 11 months, what will you be doing?
The wonderful opportunity that I have by doing the world race is that every country could be different. My team and I could be doing any number of things. Working in orphanages, help running VBS (vacation bible school), visiting the sick, building relationships with the locals, help build buildings in the community, and many more possibilities.
What countries will you be traveling to?
Bulgaria, Romania, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Guatemala. As of right now that is the order we will be traveling to each country.
How much will that cost? $15,500 for the 11 months that I am actually on the mission trip. That does not cover the other costs that I have getting ready to leave. Such as cost of transportation to training, vaccinations, equipment needed for the mission trip, and added expenses while ministering in the countries just to name a few.
Have you been following what is going on there? Yes but I also don’t let myself get all worked up about it all. AIM (adventures in missions) has done this before. They do keep up with where all the racers are and where they are heading. If there is a significant danger then our route changes and we will not go into that country. Unfortunately there is always risk no matter where you are and live. Our world is always in a battle with itself.
What about all your stuff? I will be trying to sell much of it and putting the rest into storage.
What about Mini (my dog)? My sweet baby girl will be going to ‘grandma and grandpa’. In other words my mom is going to be taking care Mini for me while I am done.
Will you be able to get your job back? My job is such that I will be replaced and not have one when I come home. Which really is too bad because I will miss the people that I work with but we can stay in touch.
What will you do when you come back? This is the one thing that I really have not thought about and the one that freaks the most out when I tell them. I don’t know! And that really is just fine with me. Yes the economy is bad, yes I am giving up my job, but you are missing the point. GOD SAID TO GO. He will take care of me while I am on the race, when I come back to the states, and right now as I prepare to do his works around the world. I am trusting in him for all my needs, he will provide.
But your hearts must be fully committed to the Lord our God, to live by his decrees and obey his commands, as at this time. 1 Kings 8:61
