We lived at La Finka, “The Farm”. There was a gym, caretaker and his family, and a church on site.
I had 20 roommates!
The gym doubled as a Feeding Center for kids, Monday-Saturday.
I learned what it means to move mountains.
I learned what true humility looks like in practice and what it means to look beyond myself.
In the afternoons, we would blast music and do CrossFit workouts. (I can now do 500 jump ropes in a row!!)
We participated in an ALL NIGHT prayer vigil!
I saw a woman get healed.
We taught the kids a game called Owl. If you make the owl sign, say someone’s name, and he/she looks at you, he/she must fall to the ground. All of the kids learned our names…
I slept in a hammock every night.
Since we didn’t have tv or internet, one night for entertainment, the 17 women barricaded the 3 men in the bathroom when they were showering after a workout. We used tables, church pews, and giant jugs of water.
We used a projector to watch movies and play Just Dance for Wii.
Saturday mornings, we would go to the even more dangerous slums in San Jose with the church to do home discipleship and evangelism.
One morning, we climbed to the top of a small mountain where we could see the whole city of Los Guido and believed in the power of pray. I found my voice on that mountain.
I met a girl whose favorite song was “I Set Fire To The Rain”. We would sing it at least 3 times together every time we saw each other.
We got to go roller skating!! I got to meet up with a friend I met in Nicaragua…twice! She updated me all about the women from last month’s ministry. I can’t wait to see you again soon, Kaila!!
Four of us played a prank on the rest of our teammates. It included 250 balloons, 10 zip ties, 2 boxes of Saran Wrap, and 4 tents hanging from the gym walls.
We hosted a Field Day for local kids: face painting, relay races, fun games, and lots of laughter.
Debrief was a collection of firsts: first time leading a yoga class, first time leading a devotion (not to mention in front of 45 people!!), and I got my first tattoo.
I said “goodbye” to Team Agape and “hello” to Team Ovida!
I had a picnic in a park in San Jose.
