My team and I have been so blessed this month. We are working alongside the ministry Nueva Generacion with its director Luis Castillo, his family, and the rest of the staff. The more I interact with the organization, the more I learn about it and see the impact it is having not just in Guatemala but all over the world, the more my mind is blown. Through its obedience to God, the teachings of Jesus Christ, and genuine love for people, the organization has been placed in a position to share God’s love with hundreds of students all over the community, country, and the world.
Here is a glimpse into the heart of the organization.
Vision:
New Generation is a Christian ministry that exists to share the Word of God with the youth of Guatemala and the world. Our goal is to win, train, and send our youth to the nations with the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Our Core Values:
1. We show love with our acts.
2. People are more important than programs.
3. The models change and there are a lot of ways to make an effective ministry.
4. We are a community that goes the extra mile.
5. The best testimony is living and leading by example.
6. Our only competition is the devil, not other ministries.
7. A healthy sense of humor is necessary.
8. The Spiritual growth is not measured by numbers.
9. The Spiritual growth is not measured by your works.
10. It is more important to live what we preach than preach what we do not live.
11. We cannot do anything without Jesus in our lives.
12. To experience God in secret is more important than the ministry itself.
One way Nueva Generacion accomplishes its vision is through its partnership with local schools to teach classes on Biblically-based values and morals. Luis Castillo, the director, wrote a curriculum that is used in these classrooms. Starting next month, the government is mandating that all schools in the region teach a class such as this. Currently, Nueva Generacion has partnerships with 20 local schools, and that number is growing exponentially. The heart of Luis is such that the name “Nueva Generacion” is not spread, but the message of the gospel and its application to our lives is promoted across the region.
My team and I have spent our time translating the Spanish curriculum into English. Once completed, these books can be used not just for us to teach here for next 2 weeks in a classroom, but they can also be sent out to other regions of the world, such as Africa, as a basis for teaching values and morals there.
It is such an honor to work with an organization that has such a genuine heart for people. Luis and his family have been so generous to us. They have truly gone the extra mile to care for my team and me and to make sure we are involved in what is happening here in Guatemala.
