Today I got to participate in Sherry’s Run, a 5K run/walk to benefit those affected by cancer. It was incredible. Over 3,000 people showed up. I wanted to write about my experience because this event was particularly special for me.

It was my first 5K!

Yep. My very first one. I am not a runner. I could probably count all the miles/kilometers I’ve run in the course of my life on my fingers and toes, no more. It was just this last week that I started running everyday. And I must say, I think I’m going to stick with it.

My whole family was there and participated!

I got spend each step of the race alongside my daddy!

This was by far the most special part of the whole event. Each step, whether walking or running, my dad was right there beside me. Anyone who has known me for a minute, knows my dad is my best friend. (He truly is the greatest person I know.) Sharing this experience with him was so touching because it was so symbolic. He is a cancer survivor, not just a one-time, but a two-time survivor. The fact that he was there today meant more to me than anything in the whole world.

My dad and I finished the 5K in just under 45 minutes! Not bad for 2 amateurs!
