I haven’t posted a new blog in a couple weeks. I just didn’t have anything going on in my life that I felt was worth mentioning. It has been kind of boring. I had been looking for something meaningful or inspirational to write about, but nothing was really going on.

Until today…

Two things happened that were both meaningful and inspirational. One is good and one is not so good. I’ll start with the not so good one first so this ends on a positive, happy note.

After I came home from work, I was talking to my roommate and that’s when the really good thing happened. But that’s next.. I let Brantley out and took him to the little dog park that in my complex. It is right next to my apartment building and he loves going there to socialize with all the other dogs that live here. I noticed that there were two puppies that he gets along really well with. I took him in there and soon after another dog and her owner came. We were all standing there talking and watching our dogs play. I heard a really loud noise but couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. Then one of the dog owners said “Oh my gosh, someone call 911!”

Behind my building, and the dog park, is a pond. Across the pond is a pretty busy road. It’s probably 200 yards from where I was. I looked out towards this road and saw a man stumbling around trying to help someone up. A motorcycle with two passengers had lost control and the person on the back was thrown off. The passenger was lifeless and the driver helping him was really struggling. Meanwhile, the dog owner had a dispatcher on the phone and was informing her of what was going on. We all stood there watching and waiting for the ambulance to show up. There were probably 10 cars stopped on the side of the road at this point and tons of people out of their cars helping these two people.

Within minutes a police car, firetruck, and an ambulance showed up. They were out there forever. I couldn’t really see from where I was, but I didn’t see this person moving. I saw that they had brought out a stretcher. I immediately started praying that these people would be ok. Eventually they got the person on a stretcher and the ambulance left.

Honestly, I have always been pretty cool with motorcycles. I am such an adrenaline junkie. They look like such a thrill. I know that they are dangerous, but I guess that’s part of the attraction for some people. My mind has forever been changed. They are so dangerous. Whether they are the only ones on the road like tonight or the motorcycle is hit by another car. Anything can happen and I have decided it is just not worth it. I don’t know what caused them to crash. And I don’t know what happened to either the driver or the passenger. It made me sick to my stomach to watch this all happening. It also made me realize exactly how precious life is. I was talking to the guy that called 911. He said, “That’s one reason why you should never leave someone on a bad note.” He’s exactly right. Let the people around you know how much they mean to you while you can. Never leave angry and without saying good bye. Because you never know what the next moment will bring.

Now for the happy moment of my day!

I am such an animal lover so it comes as no surprise that this is my second (and probably not last) post about my dog. He is such a handful. Constantly needs to be entertained. He needs a brother or sister. Unfortunately, I cannot take on another dog right now. Especially since I am leaving for almost a year. My mom warned me not to come home with two dogs.

But there is the most adorable little puppy that lives in my complex. She is a catahoula mix. They are not sure what she is mixed with. But she is tiny. Probably weighs no more than 7 pounds soaking wet. Looks similar to my dog. And they looooove each other. They have the best time playing.

WE ARE FOSTERING HER!!! and we are so excited about it!

Her owner said he just doesn’t have the time and it’s not fair for her. My roommate has been wanting a puppy for awhile and B has too. Kristin  (my roommate) came up with the idea to foster her. She wants to watch her while the owner looks for a good home for her. If this puppy doesn’t shed like her owner says, I have a feeling Kristin is going to adopt her. I really hope she does! This is kind of like a trial run I guess you could say.

It got me thinking about the kids that we are going to help all around the world. The kids that don’t have any one to give them the attention and time that they desperately need. I wish it was as easy to take them home and foster them until they can find a forever home like it was to take in this puppy. Even if I can’t help them long-term, I can help for the short amount of time that I will be there. Thinking about this puppy gave me renewed excitement for this trip.

What a day it was. Prayers for those involved in the wreck. And prayers that we aren’t in over our heads with this second puppy.
