A little bit of nonsense and a little bit of wisdom.
1. You will spend an absurd amount of time in coffee shops in quest of wifi, which of course means you’ll spend an absurd amount of cash and calories on coffee.
2. Chacos are the only shoes that seem to last.
3. If you are in South Africa, surfing is a must. ( Muizenberg is a great place to learn)
4. Love your teamates and really invest time into them. God put you on a team with them for a reason, and he knows best.
5. Understand that clothes will get trashed on the race. Do not try to fight it. You will lose.
6. Love your host family and spend an extra five minutes with them a day.
7. Save money for debrief, because whether you intend to or not, you will drop stacks.
8. World Race phrases are real.
9. Living for Jesus is all about choices. They don’t even have to be big choices. The little ones will somehow or other lead to big choices. You can slip further than you realized by just a few unfruitful choices.
10. Working out is important, due to all the carbs you will eat.
11. Fasting from wifi for a week or two could give you the best experiences on the race.
12. Drink water all the time, because diarrhea is ever present.
13. When the people of God are preaching, listen carefully. More often than not God has answered my prayers through someone I would never have expected.
14. Feedback is a good thing. As long as it is done through a Christ filled perspective, and not done in anger, a lot of good can come out of it.
15. Don’t expect to move heaven and earth in your first week. God called you to this trip to help him carry out his work in His timing.
16. Patience is important.
17. Rushing out to do every tourist attraction is not a good idea, as it will leave you penniless. Figure out what you enjoy or what you have always wanted to see, and do that.
18. Ministry on the world race is sometimes scarce and very spontaneous. Go into each country waiting on Jesus. Life is ministry.
19. Find and develop hobbies to do during down time.
20. Pray to Jesus all the time. Even when you don’t feel like it.
