This past week or so, there have been a few bugs going around the children’s home. Some of the babies/toddlers in the nursery have had fevers, runny noses, coughs, diarrhea, and vomiting.
A few of the older kids have also come down with the bug as well, with three of them staying home from school the last couple days.
Maria Fe, 12 years old, is on about four different medications after a visit to the doctor, including one for bronchitus.
Another one of the older kids, Diana (10 years old), went to the hospital today because she has been feeling pretty sick and not getting better for the last three days. The doctors think that she might have Dengue Fever, an infectious disease contracted through a mosquito bite.
From what I’ve been told, the symptoms that go along with Dengue can be pretty miserable; it has been given the nickname “The Break-Bone Fever.” Diana is going to be spending the next night or two in the hospital, so they can monitor her status and better nurse her back to health.
Please keep the health of the children’s home in your prayers this next week. Pray that the worst of it is over and that the kids will start to feel healthy again! And keep Diana in your prayers as well, that her body would begin to heal and the Dengue Fever would go away as quickly as possible!
And lastly, please be praying for my health as well, as I was one of the “lucky” volunteers that also caught the bug, sometime around 2pm yesterday afternoon, lasting through the night. I’ve been able to keep everything down since then, but today I haven’t been able to wash dishes without feeling extremely fatigued, and I still have a fever and queasy stomach. But I’m hoping to be back up to speed by tomorrow morning! Thanks for all your prayers!!
