Hello everyone! I just wanted to write a quick update just to let everyone know that I made it safely to Manila yesterday. My flights went pretty well actually, and thanks to a 1am flight and a little pill called ambien, I slept a good chunk of the first 14 hour leg. After a stopover in Taiwan and another short flight, I made it to Manila on time, got through customs quickly, and was at the KIM Headquarters around 1pm local time.
I spent most of the day just visiting the people and kids. I went and saw a house they are building in the community for a local family, did some grocery shopping with jeff, watched the kids at the home have a big water fight, went and saw how big and adorable all the “babies” are, spent some time eating dinner and chatting with Marilyn in the bahay kubo, then went up with most of the volunteers to celeberate a Filipino tradition called Ortigas Blitz… which the real stuff on that holiday gets going today, Good Friday. But that will end up being a blog in itself, so I’ll leave that one for later.
So the next couple of days I will be taking it pretty easy… adjusting to the time, adjusting to the (ridiculously) hot weather, seeing old friends and meeting some new ones, hanging out with the kids, etc …then in a couple of days, when there are no short-term teams here, I’ll be sitting down with Jeff and start to get a rough sketch of what my time will look like, at least for the next month or so.
Anyways, it is going well so far, and I just wanted everyone to know I am safe here, and it might take me a few days to settle down and get going with my communication stuff. In the meanwhile, if you haven’t checked it out, I’m now able to receive support via online giving, which is GREAT because I’m still only halfway there! Please check it out here: SUPPORT CHRISTIE!
