Below is part of an email I received from Jeff Long, a missionary in the Philippines that I met during the World Race and then went back to work with for a month this past October. Jeff, along with a great group of volunteers from all across the United States and Australia, are doing some amazing, life-changing things in the Philippines. Please read his email about a woman they met and tried to help recently….

…You know we tried to help a 17 year old girl these past couple of weeks, she came to us wanting to give her baby (six months pregnant) to us when it was born, so we naturally started giving her check ups, vitamins, fruits, veggies, etc… one week ago she came to us not feeling well and wanting to get away from the abusive 21 year old man in her life, so we moved her into the YMC.  Long story short, she took ill on friday night(ten days ago)… we got her to a hospital, she was battling double pnemonia, a racing heart, and TB was ravaging her body… she went into contractions, gave birth to a 31 week old premie girl, who weighed 1.2 k (2.6lb)….. after getting through all of that, she was on the road to recovering until this past friday(three days ago), her sister gave her several drinks of water(not allowed) and within 12 hours she died. her name was Irene…. her baby is still alive several
days later…. we are praying for God to spare her life. There are 3 other abandoned babies in that hospital alone….

Please keep Irene’s baby in your prayers. Pray that this tiny baby will grow into a normal sized, healthy baby. Pray for the three other abandoned babies in the hospital, and for all the other abandoned children that call the streets of Manila their home. And please keep Jeff’s ministry in your prayers as they seek to show God’s love in that place and help as many abandoned, orphaned, hopeless, widowed, needy, struggling people as they can.
