Read Bed Bugs- Part 1 First!
I stood awkwardly in the center of the room, unsure of what to do next, contemplating the numerous yet limited possibilities. I suddenly became aware of the reality that leaving the room was not an option, lest I get caught in the death trap that fervently awaited me outside the door. The entirety of my body yearned for only three things: clean teeth, clean hair, and the liberation of my bladder. Yet despite these things, I was trapped. Completely and utterly trapped.
My mind was entirely consumed with thoughts of the bathroom. Never had I thought I would covet the squatty as I was in this moment. I decided that the only way to free my mind from these incessant thoughts would be to free my mind from thoughts all together. The only solution was to sleep.
I headed solemnly to my bed (i.e. my sleeping bag and mat), fully aware that it was only 8:30pm. Before climbing in my bright pink and hole-covered mosquito net, I decided to clean the surrounding area of dead bugs that had accumulated over the course of the day. The sole of my foot sunk into liquid as I stepped towards the far end of the net. The leaky roof. It was raining and the roof was leaking into my bed. As if living in community wasn’t enough, as if sharing a room with 7 other people wasn’t enough, as if eating every meal with 40 people wasn’t enough, the rain had now claimed my bed, the only area I thought I could claim as my own.
