It’s really happening! I’m on my flight right now from Atlanta to South Africa. We have a 15 hour flight followed by 25 hours on a bus before we get to our first month’s ministry.

First off, my phone is now turned off. You can reach me at [email protected], through my Facebook, or iMessage me at [email protected]. Also, I’m working on getting a lot of pictures and videos up here on the blog throughout the year, but I think a good chunk of it will be easier just to view on my Facebook page.

My November and December were full of anticipation (which I guess is appropriate considering it was Advent during a portion of that time). It was also a blur of business – There were a ton of goodbyes, I was working a lot of hours, studying for the GRE, and last minute errands and other things to get straightened out. It was a blessing though getting to spend time with a lot of you before I left, and now that I’m gone, I realize a bit more how much I’m going to miss everyone back home. You are all awesome. My family, relatives, friends, co-workers – you all rock. While we cannot all stay in close contact this year given my location, lack of Internet, and most importantly because my main focus this year is being the hands of feet of God’s love through our mission – you all need to know how deep you are in my heart.

I also want to give a special shoutout to my former(?) co-workers at KPMG. This is the busy time of the year, and it’s pretty darn grueling. The hours are tough and the stress is high, and it doesn’t help that it’s cold and gloomy/dark all the time in the winter. Especially to my fam out at Nationwide, you all mean a lot to me and I’m praying for comfort and peace for all of you, lol and a little bit of fun can’t hurt. Keep your heads up! (Lol or is it ‘Head Down, Spirits up’??).

Back to the mission work – I am so excited to have this opportunity for 2 main reasons (among many other)-  to dive deeper and get to know the TRUTH and the PURPOSE of our existence through deepening my relationship with God our creator, exploring our relationship and getting to know myself better in the process. And second of course, to be able to serve the people of this world. These are not mutually exclusive…For our first month we will be serving at an all-boys orphanage outside of Beira, Mozambique. The home takes boys in that were living on the street, empowers them by giving them personal responsibility for running the house and teaching them trade skills such as building and carpentry, and the boys also help out many of the older female widows in the city. Please keep us in your prayers. More to come!

Ipad is about to die and I need it acasually for a few of the logistics-related tasks we have to do once we land. So, I’m out! Go Cavs.

Also, let me know if you have any Royal Rumble predictions in 2 weeks…
