THE MINISTRY…

Evangelism to a community of over 500 people is the primary ministry of Touch Village. English classes and
Sunday Services round out the remainder of your stay. Very few speak English making this destination a treat.

God has proven to be good this month. Asa team we have been able to bring forward and share what the Lord is doing in our own lives, as well as encouraging others to step boldly into what the Lord has called them into. Each day we would eat breakfast and head off to share The Gospel message with many of the houses in the surrounding area. Even in a majority Buddhist area such as Cambodia, people have proven to be very open to the message we take to them. Then after lunch we would do the same. In between lunch and evangelism we would teach English classes for kids, as well as classes in the afternoon to youth. Who knew that teaching English could be such tough work. Especially when you must teach through a translator.

NIGHT LIFE:

Night life starts after dinner (7pm). Most commonly involves hauling a
TV, DVD Player, Speakers and a Microphone outside for some Khmer
Karaoke. Villagers love it when you put on a show and sing like you
know the words. Though there are a lot of DVDs, it seems like the same
one is ALWAYS chosen.

FUN FACTS:

1: Being tall in Cambodia is not a cup of tea. You will be given challenges as you step into low ceilings, low bars across pathways, low tree branches etc. If anything could be low to the ground, it is in Cambodia.

2: During the dry season many families are home as the community is farm based. Finding ways to stay cool is easier than one expects. Try coconut ice cream, or a mid-day shower.

3: Prepare The Gospel in an easy to understand way, so you translators will understand the point you are trying to make.

4: Roosters crow regularly at 3AM, 5AM and 7AM. Hooray!

5: You will most likely see someone killing a duck, chicken or other animal. If your not the one killing it.

6: Catching a running duck, can become your workout routine if your no good at it.

7: Cambodians aren’t huge fans of french fries, but Vuthy’s (Ministry Contact) mom can cook them awesome.

8: Pop becomes a delicacy in less then a week. You crave the fizzies. 😀

9:  A “Squatty Potty” is your friend. They are much more comfortable than you would imagine. If you squat enough you get a good thigh workout.

10: People driving by you will say “Hello!” But… they won’t respond to any other English.

11: Little things matter. Fans at night as you head to bed are just amazing.

12: Guitars provide a good time sink. Practice makes perfect and even if you have no guitar skills, you can always pretend.

13: Being loud and crazy is a great way to connect with the kids and youth.

14:  When rain comes, it can be relentless.  Pack bug repellent.

W O R S H I P
Worship is a necessity as Cambodia is a very spiritual place in the New Year month. People pay respects to their lost loved ones at temples, and set up incense and food outside their houses as offering to the spirits. The spirits are believed to eat the spiritual aspects of the food, therefore after new year, the food is free to eat. Please remember the reason for being here and giving your all in worship is very helpful to keep your feelings away from falling into apathy.
