Chris with his beautiful niece, Addy Rossman

Hello, and thank you and for joining us. My name is Amanda Britton, I'm Chris' wife, and today I will be interviewing Chris Britton.

AB: All right lets get this started. How long have we been married?
CB: Wow, jumping right in to the tough questions. Hmmm…since today is January 15th and we got married on June 6th, 2009 we have been married for 1 year and 220 days.

AB: Wow, that was impressive. Lets go to an easier question, when and where were you born?
CB: I was born on July 25, 1985 at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon, Michigan. I think I was born sometime in the early morning.

AB: Tell me a little about your family?
CB: I have wonderful wife, you, and together we have a pretty awesome dog named Grace. I have two parents, a mom and a dad, and a brother who is 11 years younger than me. So a pretty small family.

AB: What are you going to do with Grace while your on the World Race?
CB: Right now my parents are going through the adoption process. I think they'll pass and they will get the privilege of watching her while we are gone as long as they agree to no people food!

AB: Yes, your parents will take great care of Grace. So tell me what do you currently do?
CB: I currently teach at Lake Michigan Catholic Schools in St. Joseph, MI. I'm going on my second year there. It has been a great experience.

AB: Do you think you will return to teaching after the World Race?
CB: That's really up to God. Who knows what we will do after the World Race. That's part of the excitement for me about going on the World Race, not knowing what we will do afterwards. I'd really be interested in working for a nonprofit.

AB: So tell me Chris, what are you passionate about?
CB: I love being outdoors. I love to hike, bike, cross-country ski, and camp. I'm always on the lookout for some sort of adventure, one of the many reasons we joined the World Race.

AB: Growing up did you ever see yourself participating in something like the World Race?
CB: Absolutely not! I had always had the desire to travel, but was interested in pursuing the "American Dream".

AB: So tell me how you ended up deciding on the World Race.
CB: That's a really long story but I'll try to sum it up. I guess it all started when we moved to St. Joseph and joined a small Bible study. Through that Bible study we ended up going through the book of Luke and we were really challenged by Jesus' call to leave everything and take care of "the least of these", the people overlooked in society. We then had the opportunity to travel to Haiti with some friends to help with the rebuilding efforts after the earthquake. We were so moved by what we saw, the devastation combined with the joy of the people living in such harsh conditions, that we knew that God had another path for us than the fast track to material success. So we began to pray and threw one of your friends God presented the World Race to us. From that point on we knew we had no other choice. I feel that the World Race is small but important stepping stone on our journey of faith.

AB: It looks like we are out of time, and people are probably thinking that this getting long. Thanks for taking the time to sit down to this interview, and thank you to the readers of this blog.
CB: Thanks for having me, Amanda, and yes thank you for following the blog!
