Today is the first day of Thailand’s Vegetarian Festival. Judging by the title, I rather expected this to be a celebration of fruits and vegetables. NOPE!
However, my team was recently warned about this several-day occasion.
Do you remember those deeply disturbing National Geographic articles with pictures of people lashing their own backs and putting knives through their faces? Welcome to Phuket this week. And, for the record, those NatGeo pictures were the PG version of what goes on.
The festival is held on Phuket Island. Our current location. The people celebrating believe that during this time, 36,000 ‘gods’ descend upon the island and join the festivities. There is no doubt in my mind that these ‘gods’ are demons come to play. Those partaking in the festival literally pray demons into eachother. This person, now utterly demon possessed, enters a ‘trance’ state and begins grotesque, nauseating self mutilation. Some of these include: piercing their faces with knives, attacking their own backs with hatchets or whips, walking across hot coals, getting doused in boiling water, to name a few.
We were also warned that we may see people walking down the street in the ‘trance’ with their eyes rolled back in their heads, and that it is a disturbing sight.
This event started today and will continue after we have left to move on to Malaysia. I love Thailand. My time here has been wonderful and blessed. But I am shocked at the demonic oppression of this beautiful country. And it’s about to get so very much worse this week. It saddens my heart. Whenever what I know is going on right now comes to my mind, my stomach gets tied in knots. God wants these people. God loves these people. It pains me, and I cannot fathom how it must pain Him, to be aware of what demonic spirits are doing to these lovely people right now. The people of Thailand don’t yet know that there is a better Way.
Please pray, my dear friends. Pray for these people right now as they literally tear themselves apart under the influence of demonic spirits.
