My World Race journey began on Monday, October 5. I flew out of Phoenix and had a 2 hour layover in Atlanta. I was able to get dinner with my grandma, Uncle Russ, Aunt Jana, and cousins, Nathan and Paige, in the Atlanta airport during my 2 hour layover. It was such a treat! From Atlanta I flew to Miami where I was reunited with about 11 of the other World Racers.
My wonderful teammate DJ had made arrangements with a church near the Miami airport to house all 12 of us for the night. They picked us up from the airport in their church bus (50 pound backpacks and all) and drove us to the church where we spent the night. They also came in early to cook us breakfast before taking us back to the Miami airport the next morning. It is so awesome how the Body of Christ works together to meet the needs of its family. I felt so cared for and it was neat to see how the Lord was already providing for us.
Our travel from Miami to Guatemala City went smoothly, praise God! We took vans from the airport in Guatemala City to Antigua. This was such a special treat from the Lord. I spent 2 months in Antigua last September/October studying Spanish. I instantly felt at home and I can’t believe that it’s been a year since I was here. We have been staying in hostiles here in Antigua…with beds and warm showers!!!
I have had such a great time speaking Spanish with the locals here in Antigua. I was able to talk with Hervie, who works at our hostile. He told me about his wife and family. He told me that he is also a Christian and has experienced the transforming power and new life through Jesus Christ!
My team (Team Jubilee) and Team Increase will be traveling to a rural Mayan village about 2 hours outside of Antigua tomorrow for our month of ministry here in Guatemala. We will be working with My Father’s House to build houses. We will be camping in our tents for the next 26 days and won’t have internet access. I am looking forward to this time because it will definitely be stretching for me.
The Lord has been teaching me to release control and trust in Him. He is showing me that He is with me even when I don’t “feel” Him. My teammates are such amazing people and are truly seeking the Lord!
