PSQUAD camp site

Getting off the plane and walking through terminal D, a sense of excitement begins to fill the air. Five and a half years ago, I found myself in a similar surrounding. In this very airport, but with slightly more anxiety. On this particular day, however, there is some familiarity. The “plane train”, is no longer intimidating. I get right on, and go straight to baggage claim. What once was overwhelming, is now automatic. I won’t lie, there was a small sense of pride in knowing what I was doing. And I am overjoyed, that there will be many more similar experiences in different countries around the world over the course of 11 months.

Entering the familiar meeting place, it is obvious where World Racers are communing. Hiking packs are scattered, Chacos and Tevas are found on the feet of these brave souls, I now call family. I have arrived for training camp

These past 2 weeks, I had the honor to attend a pre-training camp Beauty for Ashes retreat with some fellow ladies, while the men of our squads went on a man hike. To future racers: if you are given the opportunity to go, DO IT! I do not regret this decision at all. In fact, it was a great transition into training camp.

Things I learned these past few weeks.

I have expectations of having no expectations. It was said many times. But it is so true. You cannot anticipate anything that will happen in the the next year. At training camp, the moment you think, “I know where they’re going with this,” you expectations are quickly interrupted. (But in a completely wonderful way). This is only a small taste of what training camp is like, but I’ve also learned that sometimes less is more.

I’ve learned that it’s okay if you not keen on being vulnerable before you new family, because the Holy Spirit will quickly break down those walls that you’ve worked so hard to put up.

I’ve also learned, I really don’t need that much stuff to survive 11 months on the World Race. It’s best to travel light.

I’ve learned to appreciate the sunshine. 🙂 Sunny Evening

Bucket baths are amazing, even when it’s cold outside…it still feels good.

I’ve learned, it is no mistake that each one of my P-Squad family is on the Race. God hand picked us. And will use each of us with our own gifts.
