This past week was L-Squad’s Parent Vision Trip(PVT). PVT usually happens during month 8 of the Race as an opportunity for parents to visit their racers in the field and join in on ministry. My parents were able to spend 5 days with my squad in the outskirts of Santiago, Chile. During the week we had organized ministry, free time together, evening worship, and community living. Parents got a feel for life on the Race complete with dying to oneself, cold showers, lack of sleep, unbalanced (yet delicious) meals, last minute changes, feedback, language barriers and deep conversations.
For me, it was a time for God to highlight what He has been doing in my family and in me during this journey. Signing up for this, I knew that it would be an opportunity for God to work in me, change me, and strengthen my relationship with Him. Most obviously, I have seen an increase in boldness, masks have been stripped off that I have hidden behind and I have learned to be more interruptible and sensitive to God’s voice in my everyday life.
However, I had no idea how my journey would impact my parents starting way back in August. God has been stirring up hunger in them for more. I see a fire being lit for a purposeful life in the Kingdom, totally reliant on God and walking in greater faith. It was beautiful to witness God working in them this week and seeing my squad mates and other parents minister to their hearts. The God we serve is awesome. He never leaves us where we’re at, no matter what age we are. I’m so thankful that He brought my parents to Chile to experience what my life has been like for the past 8 months and I can’t wait to see what the Lord continues to do with what has been started here.
Here are a few photos highlighting the week:
Parents arrived and participated in an “Amazing Race: World Race Edition.” Working in a team with other parents from Team Rugged Chic, they constructed a tent, took it down, packed it into a large backpack, and used their limited Spanish to find where lunch was.
Our ministry was construction focused. We sanded and painted 3 dormitories for the orphanage that hosted us.
On our off day, my parents and I adventured out to the Andes mountains. After quite the adventure on public transportation, we made it to Cajon del Maipo. The day included hitchhiking, tea and coffee at a beautiful lodge, and a personal tour deep into the most beautiful valley with a large dam-made lake.
