TANZANIA
| Morogoro
Welcome
to Tanzania! We have almost completed our first week here. We are
working with a local pastor (Albinas) and his church PAG (Pentacostal
Assembly of God). We spend most mornings doing door-to-door
evangelism and spend our nights going to meetings at the church. We
have been told that we actually will only be working with this church
until the end of the week. Pastor Albinas has us also going to his
two friends’ churches in the following two weeks, which is exciting
to get to see more of this country and people.
We
are staying in a hotel which is conveniently located five feet from
the pastor’s house and we have our own rooms and beds which is a
blessing. But, Tanzania is by far the hottest place we have been thus
far. Feels similiar to Florida in August with the same amount of
humidity but no air-con and no fans. My malaria meds are making me
sensitive to the sun, which means I have to lather up on the
sunscreen or in about 30 minutes I will be burnt. Though, like I said
I can’t complain because I have my very own bed and bedroom! The view
is incredible with almost a 360 view of mountains that stretch high
up into the clouds. We are in the valley of the Morogoro Mountains
which are along the coast of Tanzania. The people here are more prone
to be natively dressed than the other countries we have visited.
There is also a higher population of muslims and Roman Catholics due
to proximity to Dar Es Salam. Their English is also not as good.
Yesterday
(Monday) was Les’s birthday so we got a room at the nearby hotel so
we could spend the day in full, cool air-con with the fan at full
blast and pretend we were somewhere else for the day. We spent most
of the time just napping or watching movies. We stocked the fridge
with icecream, oreos, and coke, the only American treats we could
find at the nearby market. It was quite a refreshing day, and got us
all ready and rested for the rest of the week.
We
are all enjoying Tanz. but beginning to miss home and the comforts it
provides. Only about four and a half months to go, how does it go by
so slow and so quick at the same time? Missing all of you, God bless!
