To my family and friends,
I hope this letter finds you well! I am writing to tell you of some new developments in my life. This last May, I graduated from Vassar with a degree in Religion, and I am currently back in Puyallup, Washington, where I am working at a farm stand and preparing for a big adventure! In January 2014, I will serve as a missionary on the World Race, a program run by Adventures in Missions (AIM), a nondenominational Christian organization (visit AIM’s website here: http://www.adventures.org/). The World Race is an 11-month-long mission trip to 11 different countries around the world. My itinerary will include South Africa, Mozambique, Swaziland, India, Nepal, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Ireland, Ukraine, and Romania.
Through service, prayer, adventure, and community, World Race participants join with local churches and families in teams of 6-8 to be the hands and feet of Jesus to everyone we encounter. We will preach the Gospel, visit orphanages and hospitals, do construction work, lead children’s sports camps, minister to women and children who are trapped in prostitution, and bring God’s love in every tangible way we can to a world in need of restoration. I am eager both to travel and see God’s world, and also to be deeply rooted in a community of other Christians passionate to know Jesus and make him known.
I am thrilled to be called to this adventure, and I trust God will provide for my needs. This trip requires both financial and spiritual support, and my prayer is that He will bring both through you, dear friends and family. I am writing to ask if you would consider partnering with me in my ministry. I must raise $15,500 in order to go on the World Race, which covers all of my expenses on the field. This financial support can be given as a one-time gift or as monthly donation, wherein you choose the amount and beginning and end date. I have included my fundraising deadlines below. If God has blessed you financially and you feel led to support this mission, in addition to praying, I encourage you to do so. Even the smallest amount will be a blessing!
If you are unable to give financially, I understand, and I hope you will keep this trip in your prayers. And regardless of whether you can pray or donate, I hope you will support me by following this blog! In fact, that goes for everyone. This journal is the primary way I’ll be sharing my experience over the year, and it means so much to know I have people to tell my stories to. Subscribe by clicking “Update Alerts” on the left side of this page and entering your email address.
Now, for the nitty-gritties:
Checks: Please make checks payable to Adventures In Missions and mail your donation to Adventures In Missions PO Box 534470, Atlanta, GA, 30353-4470. Be sure to include my name in the memo line so they know who is receiving the donation!
Response cards: Checks should be accompanied by a response card, which will provide AIM with the information necessary to send you a receipt for your donation. I have included a link that will take you to a page with the card on it (http://www.adventures.org/valkyrie/mystuff/mobilization/documents/support_card.asp?FirstName=Chelsea&LastName=Greenwood&PreferredFirstName=&Account_Type_Id=1&Appeal_Id=GREENWOODCHELSEA&AccountType=World%20Race?). Print it off, cut off one of the copies, and send it with the check. If you have any problems printing it, your donation will still go through without a card, as long as my name is in the memo line.
Donating online: If you would prefer to make your donation online, you may do so by visiting my blog site at chelseagreenwood.theworldrace.org. Just click the “Support Me” link on the left side of the page and complete your donation as instructed.
My deadlines: Here’s the breakdown of when I need to have portions of that $15,500 raised.
$3500 2 weeks prior to Training Camp
$6500 2 weeks prior to Launch
$11,000 End of 3 months on the field
$15,500 End of 6 months on the field
I am eager to see what God does in our lives through World Race, and I want to thank you in advance for your support. If you have any further questions, feel free to write or call me. May God bless you as you prayerfully consider joining me in this ministry!
Grace and peace to you,
Chelsea Greenwood
