The creation of the universe:
As late as 1915, astronomers believed our galaxy composed the entire universe. In 1925 it was proven that the universe contains as many galaxies outside our galaxy as there were stars inside our home galaxy. The universe is 5 times larger than we originally believed. The Lord challenged Abraham: Then God led Abram outside and said, “Look at the sky. There are so many stars you cannot count them. Your descendants also will be too many to count.”
God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so” – Genesis 1: 6, 7 Accuracy of this passage: massive amounts of water exist in space. Because of extreme temperatures, the waters in space are frozen into permanent ice. Satellites have found large quantities of ice in the ice caps of Mars and the rings of Saturn. The Ort Cloud at edge of our solar system is a vast region of space that is estimated to hold as many as a trillion large comets composed of ice and rock. Each large comet is calculated to contain as much as one trillion tons of ice. The vast amount of water in our oceans is less than a fraction of the quantities of water that exist in the “firmament above” in the heavens as reported in the Book of Genesis.
In Luke it says, “It shall be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.” Some verses later it says, “I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.” To the mind of his day, this sounds like a contradiction – how could a single event occur simultaneously “in the day” and “in the night”? Of course we NOW understand that on whatever day Christ returns, it will be day for some on earth and night for others. How could Luke have known this 2,000 years ago?
In his song of praise King David declared that the sun traveled in “his circuit unto the ends of it [the heavens].” Discoveries by the Hubble Telescope confirmed the accuracy of the Scriptures when they proved that the sun actually moves through space in a circuit covering an enormous orbit that lasts over two hundred and sixty million years.
The King James Version translators set out the verse Amos 5:8 as: “Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion”. But modern translators render this verse as “He made the Pleiades and Orion”. Early translators were confused because there were only 6 stars that could be seen with the eye. But modern telescopes revealed the existence of a seventh star in Pleiades – it’s so dim that only a telescope can detect it. How else did Amos know there were 7 stars in the constellation unless God told him?
The Earth – Created by God For Humans:
Job says, “He stretched out the north over empty space; he hangs the earth on nothing” (26:7). This is an extraordinarily advanced and accurate statement of that time. Just over a century ago scientists believed the earth and stars were supported by some kind of ether. Yet Job stated that our planet moves in orbit through empty outer space. Astronomers have discovered that the area to the north of the axis of earth toward the polar star is almost empty of stars in contrast to the other directions. There are way more distant stars in every other direction from our earth than in the area to the far north of our planet.
Jewish scholars in Israel have calculated that the Torah describes the exact duration of the time that passes between the appearance of new moons as precisely 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 5 seconds (or 29.53059 days). With billions of dollars of research and sophisticated observation through telescopes NASA has calculated that a new moon appears every 29.530588 days!
The Hydrological Cycle of Weather:
Job, Ecclesiastes, Isaiah, and Jeremiah describe details about the complexity of the weather system far beyond the knowledge of the inhabitants living at that time. Example: Throughout history it’s been assumed that evaporation of water from lakes and rivers was responsible for the clouds. However, Ecclesiastes confirms that most clouds are formed by evaporation from the oceans: “All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full; to the place from which the rivers come, there they return again” (1:7). A study done by the US Department of Agriculture proved that most of the water that forms into the clouds worldwide comes from the evaporation of the waters found in the oceans that cover over 70 percent of the planet’s surface.
The Complexity of Weather Patterns:
“For He looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole heaven; To establish a weight for the wind, and apportion the waters by measure. When He made a law for the rain and a path for the thunderbolt” – Job 28:24-26 Here the Bible reveals that winds are governed by their weight, a fact scientists only determined in the last century. How could Job have known that air and wind patterns are governed by their actual weight?
