“Are you the one that was to come, or should we look for another?” Jesus replied, “Go and tell them what you see: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor. Blessed is the man who does not fall away because of me.” Matthew 11:2-6
Moved a fridge today. Not exactly what I had in mind when I signed up for CGA. But man, did I have a great conversation with my co-worker Cameron about life. We laughed. We talked about my past youth pastor telling me that mission work was moving heavy, blunt objects. Even though Christians know we are related by His blood, sometimes it’s nice to learn what makes them tick.
I work out in the morning with Colby, the head of Triumph Fitness and a great brother in Christ. He is a man of much wisdom, honesty, and a passion for holistic health. We work out hard, breathe hard, and talk about what God is doing in our lives with other CGAers. The other day Colby quoted Vince Lombardi saying, “God gave you a body that can withstand almost anything. It’s your mind you have to convince.”
It hit me hard.
So much of the time, like the disciples, I am looking for God somewhere else: in what I think I should do, in status, in money, in approval.
When I don’t get what I expect, too often my flesh says, “SEE? I TOLD you that God wasn’t watching.”
But now I see, it’s not God that needs changing. My mind did/does.
God, let me continue to be Your servant, being convinced of your goodness in my heart and in my life. Let my convictions be what I stand on when my flesh fails.
