March 29th at 5:30 am all 60 of us in the squad
load into a bus to leave the Philippines
Drove 2 hours to the airport
unload all 60, 50 pound bags
departing at 11:45 am, we then ventured on a 4 hours flight to Malaysia, Kuala
Lumpur
Drove 45 minutes to the YMCA arriving at 8 pm we stayed the night
after staying the night our team of seven, has a 20 minute drive to our
destination
We are staying at a house, a women opened up to us which is
a huge blessing, because originally we were going to be staying in a church.
Now we have a house to ourselves, with laundry, shower, kitchen, Air Con, etc.
Each day God is showing His goodness and love to us, his children. We just need to have our eyes open to see it.
The Culture here is not at all what I thought.
Besides the Malays there are Immigrants from China, India and Indonesia which
have all contributed to the multiracial composition of the population. Each
culture is very different; we have to be careful of how you share the gospel
and love of Christ, how you greet men and woman, and how you act.
The food here is another story, there is nothing we know as
comfort. It consists of spicy, noodles, rice or bread- ha. I am not a person who loves spice, to be
completely honest pepper is hot to me. So being offered Indian food, I take one
bit and flames come out of my mouth. I
think I will be carrying around a loaf of bread all month, to help calm the
spice. But I love the experience and am willing to try new things. There is a
very popular drink here called Teh tarik, which literally means “pulled tea”. This
is a well-loved drink amongst Malaysians. The tea is sweetened using condensed
milk, and is prepared using out-stretched hands to pour piping hot tea from a
mug into a waiting glass, repetitively- the higher the pull the thicker the
froth.
One of the most impressive and significant landmarks in Malaysia
is the twin towers. It is 88 storeys high and connected by a bridge of the 40th
floor. At 451.9 meters above sea level it is the tallest twin buildings in the
world. We have had the great opportunity
of seeing this site and to do a prayer walk around the
building.
Well we have been here so far, God has really just given us
opportunities to lift this country up in prayer. We are moving to the jungle for a week to work
with the aboriginals. We leave Monday night on a 8 hour train ride (which I am
so excited about) so please be praying for me, the team and whatever God is preparing
us to do. Open hands we stand, ready to be Gods vessels.
