Over the past week in Beswick we have seen
a challenge to rise up the leaders and believers to make their dreams and
visions happen. Not doing it for them but standing by their side helping them
make something happen. This community over works themselves, yet rest a lot
because of the heat, we are not here to make things happen for our benefit but
help establish good core ministries and community, so that when we leave deep fellowship
and encouragement still happen.
While we are here in Beswick we are
trying to have a “Women’s Night” on Monday nights, David (in our team-the only
guy) is leading a “Men’s Night” on Tuesday nights- encouraging them to get
together as men as a community and lift each other up, as the men here have
different roles then you would see in North America. Then Wednesday nights is a
prayer meeting, and Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are fellowship (or church). We
are really trying to encourage the believer to get together and spread Gods
love in this community, but more so getting them to a deeper level and
understanding of who God is. This past “Lady’s Night” on Monday we did foot
washing, nails, and braiding (I cannot even could how many French braids I did;
it was just person as person). We had a REALLY good turn out with kids, youth
and adults – people we have never seen before. They are so precious and just
want to be loved. The kids hang all over you, wanting to know your name and
touch your hair and skin. They truly bring hope and joy to this community,
along with the women who serve in fellowship.
One lady who we have gotten to know
pretty well over the past few days is a woman named Angelica. We first met her
several days ago at fellowship. She came and wanted us to pray for healing in
her body. She is wheelchair bound due to her legs and arms/hands getting weak.
The doctors don’t know exactly what is wrong with her. She’s 24 and has a
beautiful 3 month old daughter. Monica (on team) washed her feet and painted
her toenails at our Lady’s Night. Her mother died when she was around 17 or 18
and she has had 2 siblings die. We have gone to visit her the past few days and
loves just sitting and talking to us. When we went to visit her she asked us to
pray for her hands, then to sing to her, and then asked us if we could get her
a Bible, so that she could read scripture every day- she has never own a bible.
She also asked if we could come back every day while we are here to sing and
read the Bible to her. Angelica told us that she was going to miss us once we
leave; she really desires love, friendship and hope. I feel like we have a
reason for coming here, to impact her life and bring her closer to Jesus, even
if it is just for Angelica we are blessed to serve and love upon her. We went
and met her daughter and helped her hold her (she can’t hold her very well
because she has almost has no use of her arms and hands). We encouraged her and
told her she is a good mother, and we saw joy come upon her smile, she needs to
hear encouragement. Please be praying for her. She is so precious and I have a
huge heart for her.
This is life here, we really are making
an impact here more and more and people are slowly starting to open up to us.
Just be praying for Gods will for us here, we are starting to see lives change.
It is definitely starting to feel more like we are on the World Race being here
in these conditions (It feels like we are more so in Africa than Australia. The
community we are living in feels like a 3rd world country) but we
are beyond blessed in so many ways.
2 Corinthians
6:3-13
“Sorrowful
yet always rejoicing, poor yet making many rich, having nothing yet possessing
everything”
We
have the hope and salvation of Jesus Christ to give to this community (it is
too small to call it even a town it’s about 300-500 people), we posses all we
ever need- JESUS CHRIST!
Please pray for Beswick, much is
happening but God needs to intervene in the hearts here to break walls and grow
trust. Also for us -as a team we are having a hard time being out of our
comforts in so many ways and are challenged that as we get up each day to chose
an attitude of Christ.
