So being on this trip I have realized that there is no such
thing as normal life. What is normal life? I ask myself this question several
times a day. I want to just give you a small glimpse into what “normal life”
consists of in Rwanda.
- Having
culture shock every time you see another Mzungu (white person) - Sitting
through church and trying to pay attention even though I have no idea what
is being said - Walking
everywhere - Adjusting
to Africa time (normally an hour later then the time you are supposed to
be there if not later) - Wearing
the same clothes for 3 days straight - Not
showering for 4 days - Not
shaving for 20 days - Bucket
showers with freezing cold water - Using
my mug I brought for tea as a scoop for showering - Having
every person on the street stop to stare at the Mzungu - Thinking
$3 is too expensive - Having
motorcycles/bikes as main form of transportation - Bargaining
for everything - Squatty
Potties (basically just a hole in the ground) - Not
freaking out when I share a bathroom with 3 four inch roaches - Being
invited to anything and everything including weddings because we are
Mzungus - Digestive
cookies being my treat for the week - Searching
for hotels that have good internet - Searching
for hotels that have western style toilets - Preaching
to a church of 15 members and seeing the hand of the Lord in that place.

I hope this gives you a brief look into the life my team and
I have been living since arriving in Rwanda.
