Hey guys,
So I finally made it to Ecuador which was a crazy trip. We left at midnight Saturday and headed to Ecuador via New York, for some reason. Once getting to Ecuador we had a crazy cab ride and possibly the most interesting bus ride ever (or so I’m told). I somehow slept through that ride so if you’d like to hear more on that check out my teammates’ blogs. By the time we got to Ecuador it was 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
On the World Race there is a very strict rule when it comes to saying things behind someone’s back. If a teammate starts gossiping to me, I am supposed to give them 24 hours to talk to the person about it otherwise we go to the person together to talk about it. This way no one should ever be talking behind your back. So, in the spirit of that rule I’d like to apologize to some people for talking about them behind their backs.
When we arrived in Ecuador, we met our host, Percy. Percy is a nice man, but only speaks broken English. This was obviously a problem since my entire team only speaks English. (Well, actually one guy speaks German but that’s another story.) So, with my equivalent of four semesters of college Spanish, I was the most qualified to translate between the parties which is a very scary thought. My teammates think my Spanish is amazing but that’s probably because they can’t understand what I’m saying. So for my first apology, I’d like to apologize to Mrs. Sexton, Mrs. Jones, Mariela, and Rachel (my Spanish teachers) for telling my friends that their class was a complete waste of my time. I was wrong!
Our first ministry assignment is to clear out some rocks in the back of the church (which is only a year old and surprisingly resembles a megachurch). Some of the rocks were buried quite deep and required quite a bit of skill to remove. Who knew rock removal required skill? Luckily, I have picked up rocks in fields quite a few times in my childhood on the farm, so I was an excellent rock remover. Which brings me to my second apology, I’m sorry to Papaw and Dad for mumbling under my breath how my day was ruined because I had to go pick up rocks.
Now, I have to be going because apparently I’m playing in a big church soccer game tonight. Which brings me to my final apology. I’m sorry to all my friends at leadership training who always wanted to play soccer while I told everyone who would listen how boring the sport is. It turns out maybe I should have played a little more. I’m sorry!
Even after the game last night and the 364 days of darkness that will surely follow,
God Bless and Go Blue,
Chance
P.S. I just found out the Colts won!
