Hey guys,
Sorry I haven’t talked to you guys in a while, but I really haven’t been doing a whole lot. Basically just more classes and finals, so there’s not a whole lot to talk about there. However, I did recently send away to get my India visa which as it turns out is quite difficult to obtain. It is actually so difficult that the people at Adventures in Missions spent an entire hour long session at training camp showing us step by step how to fill out the application. During this session, I thought, “This is boring, I can do that, can I go back to sleep now, and is this really necessary?” It turns out yes, yes it was necessary, and I got to think about how necessary it was as I drove the 4 hours to Chicago to retrieve the visa that I incorrectly filled out. This entire experience was made even better because I had two finals on Tuesday, I have one tomorrow, and an actuary certification exam on Saturday so I can’t really think of any better way I’d spend my Wednesday than driving to Chicago and back.
To make the day even more fun, when I arrived in Chicago at 10:30 am I was told I wouldn’t be able to pick up my passport until 4:00 pm which meant I’d have to spend the day walking around Chicago and wouldn’t get back to Michigan until late that night. (Most days I wouldn’t mind exploring, but this was finals week after all.) When I retrieved my passport and visa at 4:30, I thought, “Great! I’ll be home by nine!” And then I realized, I was on central time. Make that 10.
All in all, the day turned out not to be a total waste. I got to visit Chicago, and my India visa is safely in hand. Which leads to the moral of this story: if you don’t know what is going on, don’t be arrogant about it.
