“For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me.  And I say to this one, ‘Go’, and he goes; and to another, ‘Come’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this’, and he does it.  When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!” Mathew 8:9-10

Are you a slave? Who or what do you serve? The world says that freedom is wealth, riches, power, sex, money.  If you don’t have any of those things the world won’t blink an eye at you; but is that freedom?

We all serve something right now. We are all slaves to something.  Some right now bow down to that drink that they cannot wait to have when they get off of work; some serve religion and have to put in the hours to be a good Christian, some have deep wounds from childhood that have allowed fear, rejection and shame to become their master.  Who or what do you serve because we are all a slave to something?

Jesus found a centurion soldier above that understood authority. He understood it so much that Jesus marveled and said that he had not found so much faith anywhere, not even Israel.  This centurion soldier believed the power Jesus had and that all Jesus had to do was say a word and his servant would be healed. The centurion soldier new that Jesus had submitted to the will of the Father and was under authority.

It doesn’t matter if we are a Christian or not, we are all under some sort of authority.  Those of us that are not under any authority are in rebellion which is a form of witch- craft. Some of us might be so consumed with our wills coming forth on this earth that we have run from any authority because we are in authority. This is exactly what the Israelites did when God brought them out of Egypt.

For this reason the Israelites wandered from city to city in bondage.  Some might think they are free because they have achieved success in the worlds eyes but as Jim Carrey quoted, “I wish that people could become celebrities and become rich because then they would see that it is not the answer.”

So who is your authority, who are you a slave to? Is it fear, shame, rejection, pride, greed, drugs, alcohol, food, the environment, lust, a political party or man? It doesn’t matter who you are, there is something or someone that you are slave too. If we all dig deep whether we are a Christian or not, we serve something.

I have seen how easy it is to serve something other than my creator. I have seen how easy it is to get off course serving religion, a hurt that was never dealt with, a pain that still lingers within my heart, or something the world says is the answer.

My answer falls on submitting to the authority of Jesus. The devil will say that that is not freedom; it is boring to be a Christian. They don’t do anything fun. I have seen blind eyes see, lame people walk, deaf ears hear and party just as hard as I used to just in a different way. I have realized that being a slave to Jesus is ultimate freedom. It is not slavery as we all think of in the world’s definition, but we actually become true sons and daughters of the Living God. When I see that Jesus is at the throne of my life, everything in my life falls into place.   I bless you on this wonderful day.
