“For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, the plans to plans prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

The sun rises from the East and you wake to the smell of smoke from just outside your house. Your parents have started another day of work and you are left to care for your sister. You have never gone to school a day in your life yet you are thirteen years old. Your life has been a constant struggle because your parents have been challenged to put food on the table.

Day in and day out the same thing goes on. You see your parents working the job that their parents have worked and you look after your siblings. You have come to the age that you are about to start working and because you know nothing better you think that this is all there is in life.

This life that I am talking about is the reality to a handful of family’s that we had a chance to meet. The child that I am speaking about is Jason. He watches his parents dig through the local dump next to one of the local barrios in Diriamba Nicaragua. He has been given the job to look after his sister while his parents sift through the trash that is right in front of their house.

As I approached Jason I felt a burden on my heart. My burden was that this little boy needed a hope and a future. I asked Jason if he had ever heard of Jesus Christ. Jason said that he had heard of him but he did not know him personally. I began telling Jason how much Jesus loved him and how much Jesus wanted to give him a hope and a future. I told him that he was special and that he could dream big dreams. I told him that God wanted him to know that with Him all things are possible.

Jason looked up at Jake and me with a look that he wanted more in life. He wanted to know Jesus and He wanted him to come into his life. After realizing that the Devil wanted to do everything possible to stop him from accepting Jesus Christ into his life, Jason asked Jesus Christ into his heart.

Jason understood that even though he was a young boy, mans disobedience from the beginning infected his spirit with sin. He understood that even if he was a good boy, that wasn’t enough. He understood that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. He understood that God cannot be in the presence of sin and that he needed to accept Jesus into his heart who died for all sin. He realized that by believing that Jesus was God and that He was raised from the dead that his spirit would be perfected by the spirit of Jesus Christ. He understood that by accepting Jesus Christ into his heart and following after him he would be assured eternity in heaven with God.

Jason has been dealt a hard card in life but God has a plan for him in life. God has a plan to transform that area and use him as part of the puzzle. God’s presence was all over the dump and I know that He will forever look after Jason. Jesus Christ is a sovereign God and wants all to repent and be saved. Jason made that choice to follow after Jesus Christ to assure his eternal destiny in Heaven. Have you?
