So during my stay in Haiti I got sick as some of you may know.  This is what my sickness was like.

So far my ministry in Haiti has been lying in my bed sick with a fever and diarrhea.  I haven't been able to go out and do ministry with my team, all I have been able to do is listen.  Listen to the noise and sounds around me.  This is what I have been hearing….

The sound of dogs barking and fighting constantly.
The sound of children screaming and crying followed by a hit or a smack and eventually silence.
The sound of a roaster literally next door crowing every five minutes….only a few days ago that stopped so I am thinking he was dinner.
The sound of gun shots at 4 in the morning.
The sound of adults screaming and fighting at all hours of the day and night.
The sound of someone randomly walking by and knocking on our gate…creepy.

The sound of my team-mates and squad-mates laughing
The sound of my team-mates and squad-mates squealing….loudly
The sound of me whimpering or complaining.
The sound of water running in the bathroom constantly to fill the buckets for showers or washing dishes.
The sound of prayer
The sound of worship
The sound of a group of people off in the distance singing How Great Thou Art in a different language…beautiful.
The sound of rain at night…only for a split second.

A lot of these sounds remind me of darkness….so much darkness.  I hate hearing the sound of a child crying followed by them being hit which leads to them crying even more.  But a lot of these sounds remind me of light.  The sound or the teams praying and worshiping.  Followed by people from Haiti worshiping the Lord during all hours of the night.  This shows me that in all of this darkness God is here.  He is moving in Haiti….He is what makes this place so beautiful even though in physical appearance it's not.  Our God is good.
