It’s an easy thing to go through life, day by day, passing by nature and only acknowledging it’s beauty every once in a while. It’s also easy to go day by day thinking “yeah God loves me” as if it’s a routine you’ve been told over and over but don’t fully understand.
Driving through Cape Town a few weeks ago God decided to reveal himself to me in a whole new way. He began to open my eyes up to nature’s grandness and beauty. I have always loved a good view or a good sunset, but I don’t know if I ever truly stood and basked in the beauty of creation before this trip. As we passed fruit orchards and ocean bays, I began to see the details and power in the world around.
As I hung my head out the window, gazing at the scenery, we came across this forest of beautiful trees. Huge, absolutely stunning trees that were very thin but incredibly tall. The amazing and most beautiful thing about them, however, were they way they grew. The trunk was bare and it wasn’t till a little more than half way up where the branches of the tree actually began. I’d never seen a view like that in my life. And as I watched it pass by God began to say look at my love.
Love? What does that have to do with the trees?
He is the ultimate artist; he created this whole world, from sea to land, top to bottom, inside and out. Which means he looked at every detail of every thing he placed on this earth. When he was creating that tree he told it how to grow and precisely where the branches should begin and end, and exactly how tall they should all be. Why? Why did he create this? Why did he take so much time, like an artist, using so much detail?
Because He loves. There were only two things that made sense for all this creation. Us and love. He created all this for us. He gave us this earth, this land, nature and its beauty for us to enjoy. He didn’t have to do that. He didn’t have to create all that detail and place it perfectly for us, but He did. In that moment I came to the realization of how much he loves us!
A love so deep that He wanted us to have something beautiful to look at and enjoy. Something we could see and remember the deep, passionate love He has for us. A love that we may never understand but that we can begin to imagine by just seeing the great power in His creation. His love for us is perfect and pure, not situational or conditional, but eternal. How beautiful is that? And if he loves us enough to look at the finest details in nature, for us to enjoy, than oh heavens imagine the details of our life that he has planned and painted out for us.
“In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.” -Psalm 95:4-5 (NIV)
