At 3:45am, 30-odd
World Racers and a World
Race alumnus
piled into two cans and a car and drove to downtown Manila
for the big event – Race Day. Along with over 8,000 others, we ran. Most of us
defeated the 5K, while others conquered the 10K, and still more demolished the
half-marathon. All in all, it was an exhausting but worthwhile start to the
week.

Glenalyn, Lauren, me, Noe, and Megan after the race was over…

I can’t lie, though… while I wasn’t the last World Racer to
finish the 5K, I was definitely at the back end. But I bring it up with a
smile, because as I was running those last hundred meters, all I could process
was that I’d done it. That is until all those who had finished before me
started whistling and cheering. No one else was worried about my time or my
place – my squad was excited because I had finished what I started. Just like I
was excited.

Did the cheering give me a boost of adrenaline crossing the
finish line? Yeah.
But more than that, it was one of many pieces of evidence in
a case that has been building for a few months now.
If my teammates are my siblings this year, then my squad
mates are my cousins.
In short, verdict rendered-
We are Family.
