Yes, I am back… safe and sound! And ready to get back into the swing of blog entries, too. Aren’t you so lucky?
VBS was amazing this year. The theme?
I’ve spent a lot of time in the three or four months since the theme was announced at church thinking about whether or not things do come back to Jesus, and really… it does. Everything in life comes down to whether or not a person is willing to not only listen to the gospel message, but believe it to be true and accept the gift that is salvation courtesy of Jesus hanging and dying on the cross.
As for VBS week itself, I spent a lot of time the first day talking with the kids
about what a missionary is and the types of things a missionary does. My
favorite answer was from 5 year old Lexi (the little girl standing in the picture), who said that missionaries make
puzzles for people! We started brainstorming questions the kids would ask if they were to meet a missionary. I told them they would have the opportunity to meet a missionary at the end of the week and ask the questions, but not that they themselves would be the missionaries. Everyone was so excited all week about it, and especially me because I knew.
Needless to say, the kids were realized when they found out who the missionary they were meeting was. The looks on their faces made an entire week of not telling them who worth it because they got it. And in the process of them getting it, something else happened.
I got it, too. For the first time, I really understood… I’m not going to be a missionary in January. I am a missionary right here and right now. I don’t have to be on The World Race to be a missionary. I don’t have to fly to Dearborn to be a missionary. For this season, I am a missionary here in my community. God is giving me an amazing opportunity to go around the world, but He’s already given me incredible opportunities where I am. I don’t need to GO anywhere right now to do God’s will. It’s humbling to think that God’s chosen me to go around the world in a few months to be His ambassador to the nations, but until the time comes for me to go, I am and should continue to be content to do God’s work where He has me now.
