Hello!
I’m sure that, at the very least,
it’s been awhile since some of you have seen or heard from me. Some of you are
probably scratching your heard and wondering why it is I am writing you at this
particular moment in time. I’ll try to be brief (but we’ll see if it happens).
A few years ago, after some time
out of school to try to get a few things figured out, I made the decision to
transfer from the community college I had been attending and go to Northern
Arizona University.
It wasn’t my first choice, but God commanded, so I went. While there I learned
more in four years at college about what the Bible says a Christian is supposed
to be than in the twenty-two years previous combined. With that knowledge,
sitting in church on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights taking in sermons and
worship songs is no longer enough. Leaving the Christian mantle at church isn’t
enough.
Out of this desire for something more
has come an opportunity I never could have imagined. It’s called the World
Race, and it is the chance to spend time with people groups I’ve only heard of
by name, to live and work amongst the orphans, the widows, and the defenseless
in this world. Eleven countries in eleven months, sacrificed so people around
the world can see what Jesus Christ has done in my life, and what he can do in
theirs.
By now, you must have guessed I am
asking for your help. If not, then I am. I leave in January, and before I go, I
need to raise around $18,500. I will be doing incredibly important work – God’s
work – but I will be receiving no income outside of whatever money I can
scrounge up to do this. For this reason, I am asking you to pray (or at least
think hard) about how much you can contribute. I have enclosed a response card
and pre-addressed envelope, which invites you to share in this ministry. Please
make checks payable to Adventures In Missions. Including the enclosed card will
provide AIM with all necessary information. In turn, they will send you a
receipt. They request that you send all donations by January 1st,
2010.
Adventures In Missions is registered with the Internal
Revenue Service as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. Donors will receive
receipts for their gifts with the understanding that the disbursement of those
gifts lies completely at the discretion of Adventures In Missions and that the
gifts are non-refundable and non-transferable, per IRS regulations. Gifts may
be tax deductible; please consult a tax advisor.
I should mention that of the
$18,500, $16,000 should go directly to Adventures in Missions. The remaining
$2500 will be going towards expenses while I am away that this organization does
not cover. I’ve enclosed a separate envelope addressed to myself that you can
send back to me. Make that check payable to New
Life Baptist Church,
and write Cat’s World Race on the memo line. I’m not going to tell you not to
send cash, but sending cash in the mail just isn’t the smartest thing in the
world.
More than money, I realize this
trip needs to be bathed in prayer. If that is something you can commit to,
return the enclosed prayer commitment card. I’ll add you to my email update
list. Also, take some time and look around my blog! The address is http://catpollock.theworldrace.org,
and I will post fundraising & prayer request updates there, as well as
notes on my preparations between now and January. Once I leave, this blog will
be my primary means of communication, so make yourself familiar by visiting
often! Also, I should mention that there will be a link on that page to
contribute monetarily online, so if you don’t want to hassle with the postage
and check, it is a great option.
One last thing – Please do not feel
obligated to give because I asked, or to pray just because you have no money to
spare. I love you whether or not you get involved.
Thank you in advance for whatever
support you are able to lend!
Love,
Cat
