I’ve started to realize that the more I think about what I want to say about myself, the less I know what to say. It’s easy when you go and read other people’s biographical information and think “I can write like that. I can be inspiring. I can make people cry for the beauty of the prose they are reading.”

Reality, then, is a different story. I write, but the words fall flat. I search within myself for inspiration, only to find it has deserted me in what seems to be my greatest hour of need. The most important thing I can think of tell you is the person I am striving to be.

I am a pearl of great price. I am a child of God. I am a princess, and my Father is the King of all Kings. My Father has sacrificed greatly to make me His daughter, His love made known through the death and resurrection of His son, Jesus. He has plans for me on a greater scale than I can imagine, and I am learning to be okay with not knowing what those plans are.

With all of that said, here are the specifics about me:
– Age: 27 (28 as of the day before training camp)
– Birth Place: Cherry Point, North Carolina
– Hometown: Laveen, AZ
– Siblings: 5 sisters, 3 brothers

My Testimony:
I was saved when I was eight or nine. I can’t remember when exactly. I just remember it being a Sunday morning at church when I realized I needed Jesus. Shortly after that, it seemed like everything in my world started to fall apart. James, my now eighteen year old walking miracle and general pest of a younger brother, was born. I can’t even begin to count on my hands the number of times as a child he was in the hospital for some reason or another. I definitely drifted away from God in my teenage years and my early twenties – in part because of James – but God is merciful and has redeemed that wasted period of time. Not only that, but I learned it doesn’t matter how far away you end up as long as you follow Him back when He calls.

Probably the greatest step of faith I’ve had to take to this point is choosing to transfer from community college to university at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. Everything I’ve done since then – including two trips to Catalina Island on spring break to serve a camp on the island, and a missions trip last summer to Dearborn, Michigan – was set into motion when I made the conscious decision to follow God’s lead and not anyone else’s. I was incredibly blessed to spend four years plugged into an amazing community of believers up there, and to build incredible relationships with a few of them.

Random Facts:

– It took two attempts for me to actually be baptized. The first time my poor pastor tried, I freaked out and wouldn’t let him dunk me under the water. The second time I wanted to, but the fear of humiliating myself by letting the water scare me again proved an excellent motivator to get it done.
– I have an incredible weakness for cheesy 90s-era contemporary Christian music. You name it, I’ve probably heard it. And most likely love it.
– I love walking.
– When the Arizona Cardinals played the Steelers in the SuperBowl, I rooted for the Steelers. I do not love the Cardinals… not even a little bit, home team or not.
– I love going outside first thing in the morning after a thunderstorm the night before, before too many people are up and about. Particularly, I love the smell that hits my nostrils the second I take a breath. I think it’s like God giving me some way with my sense of smell to know that He’s capable of making everything clean and new again.
