God is so much bigger than anything I could ever imagine. Think about it, He created the Heavens and the earth, He breathed and worlds were literally formed, He spoke and life was created. God is so much bigger than anything I could ever imagine, and yet so close that He knows our names. His splendor and majesty, holiness and goodness vastly exceed the pictures and definitions I create in my head for an explanation or an understanding. Often I avoid even thinking about His bigness because I know no matter how big I think, He is still bigger. His sovereignty, wow to think that He is sovereign over everything. He knows every single choice I’m going to make before I make it, he knows every word I am going to speak before it even becomes a thought in my head, and to think He knows this about each and every individual on the face of the earth, I can’t comprehend His bigness. When I stand outside and look at mountains, rivers and the sky I can’t help but stand in awe of His bigness.
Father, Son and Holy Spirit…He is literally all three but one at the same time. God is so much bigger than anything I could ever imagine.
I long to break the box that I continually put Him in. God is man, 100% human; but also 100% God. I don’t want to be able to explain that, my words only put Him back into a box. When I read Isaiah and John and their descriptions of the things the Lord showed them I can tell they couldn’t quite explain with their words. They knew it wouldn’t do it justice, but they wanted to try for our sake. Isaiah didn’t even go into detail about seeing the Lord, but from his testimony we know he did:

“Woe is me!For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and i dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!” (Isaiah 6:5)

And John tried to describe what he saw more clearly but still could only communicate by saying it looked something like this:

“At once I was in the Spirit, and behold, a throne stood in heaven, with one seated on the throne. And he who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian, and around the throne was a rainbow that has the appearance of an emerald.” (Revelation 4:2-3)

What I wouldn’t give to see what these men saw! Some day, some day soon I will. And when I stand face to face with my Savior and Lord, I want to recognize Him through revelations He has given to me of His character, but I want to be in utter awe of His appearance because I don’t think I could ever grasp what He looks like in my flesh.
