the afternoon. It was my last visit in
Kenya that boosted my confidence in public speaking. Riding with Hannah to the different schools,
I looked forward to our tag team talks to the students. I loved encouraging them in their studies,
but most importantly their relationships with our Father. I loved the freedom I felt from giving my
testimony over and over again. I
especially enjoyed talking to the girls afterwards, smiling at each of them,
passing out my email, and offering a bit of advice.

This time there was no Hannah. I was the only American in the car and to be
honest I can barely consider myself American.
As Paul drove across the heavy dusty bumps in
the road, I cringed, hearing the bottom of the car scrape against the
road. Every now and then we’d have to
close the windows so dust wouldn’t fly in our eyes. It was inspiring listening to worship music
on the way.
I jumped out of the vehicle, ready to engage with the
students. As I entered the classroom
stuffed with at least eighty students, I smiled. They were singing some of the songs I’d heard
last year. It was familiar and I knew I
was home.
It was important for me to speak to these students. In the past week two school girls had
committed suicide all because they didn’t get the scores they had
anticipated. I offered these students
hope. Because Kenya is a developing
country, education is extremely fatal to a successful life. It is not as easy to get accepted into
schools as it is in the United States.
These students needed to know that their world has not ended if the
scores they receive aren’t the ones they wanted. Their worlds have not ended just because a
relationship is over. Their worlds have
not ended when a parent dies of HIV/AIDS. Their worlds have not ended when they are abandoned or abused. They can have life and have it more
abundantly by choosing to walk in a relationship with the Father. He will never leave them nor forsake them.
I shared my high school testimony of how I was so
distraught when I received a rejection letter from my choice school. I told them how God reminded me through my
heartache that He has a prosperous plan for my life.
When given the opportunity, one young man stood up and
made the decision to enter into a relationship with God’s Son, Jesus. I do not know His story, but I know that He
wants more for His life and He wants to walk into that plan that His Father has
for him.
