Most birthday celebrations consist of balloons, party hats, noise makers, cake, ice cream and close friends. One would never fathom spending their birthday in laughter watching the Filipina guide jump up on the back of her teammate as she is horseback riding.

Birthdays away from home can be tough, so Arete attempts to make every birthday a special one for each teammate. Unfortunately our plans for the last two birthdays have been rewritten.

Before departing Australia, we had an entire adventurous day planned out for Jeanne. After waiting for the plumber and sitting at the hospital with Jeanne and her messed up foot, we were finally able to travel to Cairnes.

Jeanne was so anxious to eat at her favorite fast food restaurant, McDonalds, that she danced there.

She and Kerry were overjoyed to sit near Ronald McDonald.
We cheered her on as she got her first tattoo, a Ulysses Butterfly (most popular in Australia) to represent being a new creation in Christ (2 Cor 5:17)

Leisa got a beautiful tattoo of a lamp, representing that Jesus gives us just enough light for each step he wants us to take.(Psalm 119:105)

Our greatest pleasure that day was meeting the Blues Brothers and taking photos alongside of them.
