Following the rabbit trail of our own minds often leads us to dark and dangerous places. The devil really does come to kill, steal, and destroy but so often we often help him out.

If he can convince us that we’re an annoyance and a burden to others, where does that thought stop? Has it ever led down a rabbit trail of feeling unwanted and worthless?

If he can convince us we are stuck in our addictions, where does that thought stop? Has it ever led to shame and a pattern of even more destructive behavior?

If he can convince us that we have been mistreated, where does that thought stop? Has it ever led to a life of roller coaster emotions and a self-fulfilling victim mentality?

If he can convince us that we have failed, where does thought stop? Has it ever led to feelings of condemnation and withdrawal from people who love us most?

If he can convince us we’ve made it in this world, where does that thought stop? Has it ever led to continuously chasing after your next achievement/adventure because you believe your accomplishments define you?

If he can convince us we are righteous by our “good works”, where does that thought stop? Has it caused a spirit of pride and a condescending attitude towards people who don’t act just like you?

If he can convince us we are more _______ (funny, attractive, athletic, godly, or any other adjective) than the person next to us, where does that thought stop? Has it ever led to a puffed up ego, a sense of entitlement because inwardly we believe ________ makes us more valuable than the person beside us?

Satan doesn’t really care what you think about yourself, and what emotions you experience here on this earth. He’s not after your happiness, he’s after your soul. As long as you stay deceived, he doesn’t care if your days are sunny and bright. The only thing he’s after is your faith that you are an unconditionally loved son/daughter of the King, apart from any good works or baggage you carry.

As long as we continue to fall for it, Satan will be planting counterfeit identities in our minds. It’s one of the only tricks he has, but somehow it works.

There is so much more available to us. Choose to believe what He says about you. Walk in freedom, my beloved.
