Day two of the World Race, and I’ve seen the love of God poured out on his people, in the simple everyday things.  It is the simple everyday things that keep a person uplifted and moving.  For the past couple of days that person has been me.  I’ve seen my team and squad loving each other in the simple ways, whether serving each other meals, encouraging each other when things aren’t going the way we might have expected, or giving a warm smile.  I have been sick for the past two days, and the love of my squad and teammates has kept me encouraged.

I was interviewed recently before we left Atlanta, GA to come to Puerto Rico.  One of the questions that was asked me was, “What do you hope to see on the World Race?” My answer was, “I desire to see God’s people live in and out of the community they were created to be.” My struggle with being sick and exhausted, now I see, was another avenue of God’s grace and love that he showed me through my peers and those to whom we came to serve.

The love of God has been expressed in many ways through the Church we came to serve.  The people here are kind, compassionate, and grateful for all that God has been doing for them. It’s the simple things, the kind words and the light pats on the shoulder that allow me to see the hearts of the people who live here.   It encourages and reminds me that Godly community is important.  My desire for these next 11 months is to be intentional about Godly community, for myself and for my team, to love each other well as in John 13:35, “By this shall all men know you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
