So here I am, in Maun.  In the middle of the Kalahari Desert.  It’s sandy.  And hot.  And dusty.  Maun is in north central Botswana and is one of the bigger towns.  There are less than 2 million people in Botswana and most of the country is extremely rural.  The new teams Lego and DOZ are staying together at Love Botswana Outreach Ministries.  We are spending about 3 weeks here helping to wrap-up their multi-national outreach season and prepare for a yearly Christian Camp Meeting.  The people are friendly and helpful, especially when asked directions.  This area of Botswana is near a large river system that hosts swamps and is one of the few refuges from the Kalahari sand.  Maun, is therefore, very much a tourist town and there is no shortage of safaris and walking tours.

We will not be spending the majority of our time doing the tourist thing, as you may well know.  If we get a chance to see some hippos or zebra, though, don’t think we won’t.  We are tenting right now and cooking over an open fire with dutch ovens; it’s just like the old days of Boy Scouts.  There are endless numbers of birds to wake us up in the morning and lots of cows and donkeys to keep us up in the evenings.  We are also going to spend some time in the afternoons with the kids from the school that Love Botswana is running.  Next week we will get a chance to travel to some of the smaller villages.  I am very exicted about the many different types of ministry that we will get to do and hope each one teaches me more about God and His people.
