These past 3 months in El Salvador have not been what I expected them to be. But I came into this trip with no expectations so it all works out well. For the past three months I have worked in a laundry room, worked in a kitchen, played with babies, hung out with kids at an orphanage, and played soccer with girls in a gang prison. Definitely not what I expected.

I’ve had many great moments in El Salvador, but getting to know the people here has been my favorite. From Jehovah’s witnesses, to fellow world travelers, people we meet on the bus, cooking ladies who have been like my moms for the past three months, to a burger shop owner I played Fifa with, Frank and Oswaldo have definitely been my favorite. Frank and Oswaldo have been our roommates for the past three months. They’ve showed us around the city, cooked with us, and laughed with us, all while helping me improve my Spanish. One of the things I miss most will be Frank making fun of me daily. They have been the best of friends these 3 months and I hope they will remain my friends the rest of my life.

Living in community with my team has been something that I’m not use to but something that’s been really good. It pushes you to look after and serve one another. It pushes you to humble yourself and not put yourself first. For the past three months I couldn’t have asked for a better team and I’m very happy that I’ll be spending the first month in Malawi and Christmas with them. I am looking forward to seeing how we are going to grow in Christ, individually and as a team.
