So, I am beyond excited to
take this journey. I can’t believe it is only 5 weeks away. In some
ways I feel totally ready for it, but in others I know there is no way to truly
be prepared for all that I am going to experience. So many beautiful
unknowns. Somehow I guess I am subconsciously preparing for next
year. I just had another random
meal of rice and beans and trailmix and loved every bite of it. I hear on the race you end up eating a
lot of the same food over and over.
I kind of already do that.
There was a semester in college (minus maybe 2 or 3 days) that I had a
peanut butter and jelly bagel, veggies and dip, and milk every single day for
lunch. And it was delicious every
single day. I’m all about the food
repetition, however when the same food over and over becomes fried tarantula, I
may feel differently, but we’ll see.
I cleaned out the pantry in my house the other day and found 18 and a half granola
bars strewn throughout all of the boxes and cans that stock the pantry. Upon my discovery I realized that my
Costco purchase of a 48 pack of granola bars may have been excessive, but
that’s all right because I am like 90% sustained on granola bars and I have
roommates. And what are roommates
for if not to eat all of your excess food. I also found a random fruit cup shoved way in the back of
the pantry. I unskillfully opened
it and spilled some of the juice onto the jeans that I have been wearing for
the last 5 days. Normally I would
have changed pants and thrown the freshly juiced jeans into the laundry. But today I just looked down and
thought, “oh well, now my jeans just have a nice citrus scent.” I have a bin full of stuff I am planning
on taking on the race and with every item I add, I find myself wondering how
much does this weigh? And can it be compressed? Somehow I know that many of the items are not going to make
the cut, but that’s all right.
We’ll make a game time decision on what really is vitally
important. There are still some
important events to come before I leave in January. Next week I will turn 25, in 3 weeks I will stop working at
the job I have had since I graduated from college, and finally there’s
Christmas and New Years with family and friends. And then, ready or not here I come…
