THIS IS ME…
Reason is the natural order of truth; but imagination is the organ of meaning. -C.S. Lewis
Let me start out by saying that I hate writing about myself. Writing about my experiences I can do, but any kind of “get to know me” is right under scrubbing the floors with a toothbrush on my list of things I just would rather not do (thus I added pictures!). But you have come to my blog because you are one of my supporters during this race or maybe you just happened to stumble across it in a series of link-clicking. In any event, I will try to make this enjoyable and enlightening for all.
So about me:
–My real name is Carolyn Nicole, after my grandmother, Carolyn Noreen. My Mom’s name is Lynn Carol. See the pattern?
-Graduate of Texas A&M University (WHOOP!) with a degree in International Commerce

(getting our Aggie rings!)

(looking out over the Sierra Nevadas, Granada, Spain)
-Never am I more alive than when experiencing nature-God’s creation. Thus, I love the outdoors!
-I first heard about the World Race from friends Lauren and Callan, members of the August 2009 race and will be joining my former roommate and dear friend, April, on the January race.
-I love kayaking, baseball games, hiking, doodling, knowing useless trivia, and seeking adventure in even the smallest things.

(kayaking at Lake San Cristobal, Lake City, CO)
-I love to read, but sadly didn’t realize it until college. I now must go back and reread all those books I used Cliff’s Notes for in high school-Sorry Mrs. Kerr!
-I liked green before it was cool.
-Grew up in Houston, TX and still never got used to the heat and humidity like they always say you will.
–I am left-handed. It is a love/hate relationship. I hate that everything I write is smeared and smooshed together, but I love the unexplainable bond we lefties have.
-You will never find the overhead light on in my room. It will always be natural light unless I absolutely have to turn on a lamp.
-Chacos are always a preferred shoe choice of mine. Don’t believe me? Check out my tan line.
-You will often find me speaking with an accent that is not naturally my own. Sometimes the region/country of origin is distinguishable, other times not so much.
-Staple items in my diet: bread, oatmeal, granola, and coffee.
-I will never set my alarm for a time in increments of tens or fives- so instead of waking up at 7:30, I set it for 7:32 and cherish those 2 extra minutes. Same goes for cook time on the microwave.
-Me gusta hablar y cantar en español.
-I am a fitness class junkie. Step, Cycle, Zumba, Yoga…
-It is impossible for me to pass a map and not stop and stare at it, tracing lines with my fingers of places I’ve been or dream of going. Same for globes.

(top: Sigma staff at Windy Point; Tamara and I after conquering Colorado fourteener, Uncompahgre)
-My heart is in the Rocky Mountains.
-I will be an aunt in October! Congrats Chris and Leslie!
–As much as I hate numbers and math, I often find myself counting things in my head (like steps on a staircase or the amount of seconds I shampoo my hair).
-Sunrises are worth waking up for.
-My Dad and I still go on Daddy-daughter dates, usually coffee at Starbucks or a walk in the park.
-EDP. (Emergency Dance Party) I never thought three letters could mean so much to me during college.
-As much as I love action and suspense, I am a total sucker for romantic comedies.
-Thrift stores are my prime shopping stops.
-Why can’t I just ride my bike everywhere?
-I abhor phrases like “my bad” and “same difference”, and if you use “I” and “me” incorrectly I am more than likely correcting it for you in my head. Not judging, just correcting.

(Sedona, AZ after camping trip to the Grand Canyon)
-Road trips. Windows down, music up.
-I laugh at myself more than anyone else ever does.
-I like to think of myself as artsy, although I am not. I like to think of myself as musical, although I am not.
-My favorite moments have been spent in a rocking chair- reading, rocking, sipping coffee and watching the sun come up over the mountains.
-I’ve learned that greasy kebabs and falafel taste better in the early a.m. than at any normal mealtime.
-The thing that first truly challenged me to live my life for Christ was an analogy about chocolate milk during church camp the summer between 8th and 9th grade.
-Camping ministry has a special place in my heart and has influenced so much of me knowing Christ and making Him known. Thanks Sky Ranch.
–I have the most insane family and would not be who I am today if it weren’t for the Evans Clan. We are a freak show minus the tent. I would not trade them for the world.
-And most importantly, I am a child of God. One bent to sin, but redeemed by His saving grace and faithfulness. I know and rely on His love for me and know that He makes me complete. Because of this love I am compelled to serve and to tell the world of what the LORD has done. And tell I will.
And now you know-and knowing is half the battle.
