Okay… after a month, I've finally gotten around to finishing this thing! For those of you not on my squad, this is basically just a little glimpse of my life and who I am before I start into this blogging thing full swing!
What was your favorite food when you were a child?
Anything sweet, really. Fudgesicles, cookies, brownies, icecream… Oh, and cheeetos! My brother’s friend might’ve nicknamed me “cheeto breath"…
What’s the #1 most played song on your iPod?
Most played instrumental/soundtrack: “The Ludlows,” composed by James Horner, from Legends of the Fall
Most played non – instrumental/soundtrack: “You have Redeemed my Soul,” 100 Portraits and Waterdeep, Enter the Worship Circle (I loooooove this entire album! Seriously, go find it on spotify and listen to it)
What is one of your favorite quotes?
Oh my goodness… so many to choose from! I have a little journal packed with them! Here are a couple:
“Dr. Martin Luther King said, ‘If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare composed poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, Here lived a great street sweeper, who did his job well.’” Safely Home, Randy Alcorn
“The infinite value of a human soul is not a Christian doctrine. God did not die for man because of some value He perceived in him. The value of each human soul considered simply in itself, out of relation to God, is zero. As St. Paul writes, to have died for valuable men would have been not divine but merely heroic; but God died for sinners. He loved us not because we were loveable, but because he is Love. It may be that He loves us all equally- He certainly loved all to the death- and I am not sure what this expression means. If there is equality, it is in His love, not in us.” C.S Lewis, Membership
Okay, just one more.
“The sun shall be no more your light by day, nor for brightness shall the moon give you light; but the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your Glory. Your sun shall no more go down, nor you moon withdraw itself; for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your days of mourning shall be ended.” Isaiah 60:19-20
What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?
Indoor: Baking OR drinking coffee/tea while sitting down with a good book
Outdoor: I live in Colorado, what do you think? Hiking, of course!! But no, I’m not a skier/snowboarder- I’d much prefer to snowshoe and stay away from the crowds, or just go hiking in the foothills where it’s not usually as snowy.
What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
Cleaning the hair out of the shower drain. Makes me gag every time.
What is your favorite form of exercise?
I’d prefer to be doing something productive outside- weeding, gardening, hiking (not that that’s productive), helping my dad out on the farm, chopping wood… I've been getting more used to running at the gym lately, but I definitely don’t prefer it.
What sound do you love?
Music, aspen leaves gently blowing in the wind, birds chirping in the morning, windchimes…
Basically just not screamo music, the sound of heavy machinery, yelling, and the sound of nails on a chalkboard.
If you could paint a picture of any scenery you’ve seen before, what would you paint?
Some sort of landscape- probably something involving the plains but with a lot of sky in it.
If you knew the world was ending in 2012, what would you do differently?
Well… I’d probably be a lot more blunt with people… and I’d probably make more of an effort to care less about school and more about the people around me.
If you could witness any event past, present or future, what would it be?
Creation. You know that part in the Magician’s Nephew when they see/hear Aslan sing Narnia into being? That, or the parting of the Red Sea.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
The first thing that came to mind was that I’d like to learn how to play various instruments better than I do now: the piano, the guitar, anything stringed, the oboe, etc. The second thing that came to mind is that I’d love to learn how to dance, especially with a partner.
Which celebrity do you get mistaken for?
Amanda Seyfried, so I hear… I don’t actually see the resemblance.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
When I grow up? Hahaha! Well, at some point I want to tutor, maybe teach college math, but I don’t think I want to do that for the rest of my life. Honestly, I have no idea. I’d like to have kids at some point, and hopefully be a grandmother, but that’s not going to happen for a looong time. Really, I’m just waiting to and see where God takes me!
When you have 30 minutes of free-time, how do you pass the time?
It depends on where I am. I’d prefer to go find a park and take a walk or pull out a book and read a chapter or two, but I typically have something to do, whether it be writing emails, organizing notes, figuring out what I need to do next, etc.
What was the last movie, TV show or book that made you cry or tear up?
Army Wives. No judging.
What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
Confront a close friend, and then give the situation up to God after saying all I could say and there wasn’t really a response or a effort to grow by the person.
What was the last experience that made you a stronger person?
See previous question.
What did you do growing up that got you into trouble?
I didn’t really get into trouble, but once I accidentally drove our tractor into a tree while mowing… The tractor was fine, but somehow the end of the key broke off while it was in the engine… whoops!
When was the last time you were nervous?
Yesterday- I play the saxophone in the Wind Ensemble here at Colorado Christian University, and we had our first concert of the semester last night. It went really well, but there’s a really exposed part where I had a solo, so of course I was nervous for the entire concert leading up to it. Anyways, I was supposed to do it all in one breath (I almost made it, too), but because of the adrenaline, I wasn’t really able to breathe very easily and I tensed up during the last measure…
What is something you learned in the last week?
As part of one of my accounting classes, we’re consulting for a local winery. This was the week we got to visit the winery, and the owner described the process for us- how he buys certain grapes for his high end wines, adds yeast to the juice (the yeast slowly eats the sugar in the juice and spits out alcohol, and the more sugar the yeast “eats,” the dryer the wine), buys bulk wine from other wineries, adds some of the high end wine to the bulk wine to create a unique blend he sells to local restaurants. Education at its finest. 🙂
What is one word that you would use to describe yourself?
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Marry Poppins all the way!
