Hello from South Africa!
I have good news too! After flying into Chicago and then to New York, and then to Atlanta, and then to Johannesburg, South Africa, my fear of flying officially conquered! Wahoo!
We got to S.A. on Monday night and took a bus to where we are staying. We got lost though, so the bus ride took a little longer than expected, but it was good to be out of the airplane, even if it meant trading in one seat for another.
Since arriving, we’ve been resting and figuring out the logistics of where everyone on I-Squad is going. (Quick review: I-Squad is made up of about 60 individuals that are broken down into smaller teams. My team is J159. Their pictures and links to their blogs are to the left of the screen you are reading) My team is staying in South Africa for the month, while others on my squad are getting on buses today to head to either Zambia, Zimbabwe or Botswana so please be praying for them as they have a long journey ahead. Many of them will also be living in small villages or in the bush, so they are going to need extra prayers since no one has really lived like this before.
As of right now I think my team is moving locations tomorrow to start doing ministry with an organization that is closer to the city. Everything is still kind of up in the air so basically my bags are packed and ready to move whenever we find out where we are going. I will remain in South Africa for this month though. The Lord has been gracious thus far: there are normal toilets (amen) and bunk beds and showers… though the dance you have to do in and out of either freezing cold or scalding hot water probably looks ridiculous. I did find out today that there are rats evidently living with us, so I am SUPER glad to be on the top bunk!!
Gotta run for now!
Carrie
