A little about me…

I’ve lived in Florida my whole life, except for brief stints in Kansas City MO, Kodiak AK, and Colorado Springs. I grew up in Melbourne, about 5 minutes from the beach. Sadly, I do not know how to surf. I enjoyed school and grew up in a solid youth church with a group of kids who hungered after God. I come from a broken, dysfunctional family- so youth church was the place that I really got mentored, discipled, parented, and cared for. This was also the time and place that God really got a hold of my life. In the midst of despair and teen depression, God spoke purpose, hope, and love into my life.
I went to FSU (go noles) and got a degree in English Writing. College was fun. I got to rock most of it out with some Navigator friends having secret writing clubs, going climbing, camping, on roadtrips, and playing ultimate frisbee. We, also, pursued God together:
The last three years I’ve worked for the state of Florida for the department of environmental protection (we protect the environment :)) with the tech department. I work with nerds. And dorks. We are all aware of this. It is me that is finally coming to terms with myself in this context. I recently got hooked on Battlestar Galactica (a.k.a. BSG) (please still be my friend) and came out of my denial that I might not just be ‘surrounded’ by nerds, but might actually be one. (Star Wars, Star Trek, Starbucks… I’m down.)
What else? God gives me spiritual family all the time. That verse about setting the lonely in families is all me. He has been beyond good by putting people in my life that are a blessing and teach me about grace, freedom, love, and courage. I currently live in the basement of one of these amazing-blessing families, and share space with Mr. Darcy the cat.
What led me to the World Race? Well, actually I was hoping to travel the world on my own. I was looking into mission’s organizations that I could join up with and friends to visit along the way. Finally someone told me about this trip, and to be honest I was hesitant to give up ‘my idea’ of what I wanted to do. But the more I learned about the world race, the people, and the vision, the more I realized it was right along with what I was thinking in the first place. ‘A bunch of hardcore twenty somethings serving, loving, and giving while traveling the globe?’ Heck yes. Literally, sign me up.
That’s about it for me: past, present, and future.
