Well, we all knew that this day would come. It’s the day that I choose not to write on this mission blog any longer. The first reason is the obvious one, well… I am not doing missions with AIM at the moment. But the second reason has a little to do with a conversation that I had with my mother yesterday. We talked about living life like we used to, and living life to share it online. As a support raising missionary, I constantly posted about what I was doing to solicit both money and prayers. Also, people loved to be kept in the loop with the mission work in all parts of the world.
But now that I am back. I want to try living a little differently. Imagine an art museum. And two people. One with a smart phone (Bob) and one without (Jill). Now Jill has the map of the galleries and carefully looks at each piece of art. Hours pass thoughtfully and she leaves the museum happy. Bob zips around to the most famous paintings taking photos, then goes to the museum cafe and takes a photo of the coffee and muffin. He posts that to Facebook and leaves the museum happy.
Now both people are happy. I don’t value one route over the other in this. But I do know that I have been zipping around and posting a ton of updates online. And for the pure freshness of a new experience, I would love to give myself a chance to not live my life in the self-imposed fishbowl of social media.
Does that mean I am giving up blogging or Facebook? Nope! I just don’t think I will be updating and posting every detail like I have been for the past year.
With that said, of course I still have my personal blog which has a REALLY small update about being home in America. But other than that, I have no clue how much I will post in the future. Feel free to subscribe to the personal blog for the occasional update though (Click on the Followers Tab on the right). I would be joyed to keep up with you in that way.
But with all that said. I suppose it’s about time to end this post and give up this one branch of my social media experience. So…in the great words of a good childhood buddy, “TTFN: Ta Ta For Now!”
